Information is cheap. Everybody's got it - and they are giving it away left and right. Information is my job. I work for an HVAC company, and my job is to get the right information into the right hands at the right time so that they will be persuaded to get a free estimate. Even if they are persuaded to get the free estimate, all that happens when our Comfort Consultants get there is that they give the customer even more information. By this time the customer has spent $0. Info is cheap.
Sometimes the right information can be helpful. In fact, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage as well as rebuke our brothers and sisters in Christ. When I think of "exhortation" in Scripture I get the image of two people walking down a narrow path. If one of them starts to veer off the path, the other will correct him (rebuke). If they are continuing on strong then they are to prod each other on (encouragement).
Sometimes information can be destructive. For example, I can think of nothing more destructive than finding out some terrible information about someone you love being in sin. Sin leads to destruction and destruction appears first in a person's relationships.
The point is this. The right information makes all the difference.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."
- Romans 10.17
The truth of the Word of God is what generates faith within a person through the work of the Holy Spirit. The truth is always spread through those willing to speak up - the faithful. We have been given the responsibility of building the very Kingdom of God.
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
- II Corinthians 5.18-19
Think of this illustration: heat dissipates. Faith is like heat. When a man of God begins studying the Word of God and the Holy Spirit is at work, he will begin to have a revival of heart. He will be set aflame with a renewed faith in the Gospel of Christ. To trust it, to live it, and to spread it. When the newly revived person comes in contact with the lost or with the cold spirited, the heat will spread. This will warm the contact and will draw all the heat out of the faith-ful one. He must be refilled with the Word of God in order to be set afire again. Set your faith afire through the power of the Holy Spirit by reading the Word of God today and from now on daily.
