Mission New Orleans - Recollect

"If a picture is worth a thousand words, then being in New Orleans is worth a thousand pictures."

That quote is from one of the many volunteers who has lead teams through Operation N.O.A.H. Rebuild. I am taking it from my good friend Travis, whose wife heard it while working directly with the volunteers through the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

I cannot put it in more eloquent terms. On our recent visit to New Orleans as a mission project from my church, all of us were shocked to see that the face of the city you see through the media and government is a façade. Other than the Central Business District (complete with a major casino capitalizing on the helplessness that prevails in the city), the bulk of New Orleans is still a complete disaster area.

For more reflections from Pastors Travis and Sam, follow the links listed here.

Though we were a mostly unskilled labor team of thirteen Hoosiers from Indiana, I believe we made a difference in a few people's lives. Holding onto that and the fact that we were working for the spread of the Gospel and the glory of our great God and Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, I am convinced that it was a worthwhile trip.

More photos can be found in four separate albums listed here, respectively:

Here is the crew: Thank you, crew, for your hard work. And thank you, Church, for sending us.

Thanks for sharing the pictures... although I can only imagine how little justice they do to what things were like when you were down there.
